Privacy Policy

MyOwnArc ("we", "us") is a research library service at myownarc.com. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what your rights are. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the service, we don't sell or share your data for advertising, and your research library belongs to you.

What we collect

Account data — your email address and a salted hash of your password (we never store the password itself).
Your library — the documents you upload or import, your highlights, notes, chats, and extraction tables. This content exists solely to provide the service to you.
Payment data — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store card numbers or bank details; we keep only your Stripe customer reference and plan status.
Usage analytics — via Plausible, a cookieless, privacy-first analytics service: aggregate page views and events, no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal profiles.
Service logs — standard request logs (IP, timestamp, URL) kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and debugging.

How your content is used

To answer your questions, relevant passages from documents in your library are sent to Anthropic's Claude API, which generates the cited answers. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, this data is not used to train their models. We never use your library content for advertising, and we never share one user's content with another.

Stripe — payments and subscriptions
Anthropic — AI answers (passages from your library, as described above)
Plausible — cookieless analytics

Your rights

Export — your library exports to BibTeX or CSV and your notes to Markdown or Word at any time, from inside the app.
Deletion — delete documents and notes any time; to delete your whole account and its data, email us and we'll complete it within 30 days.
Access & correction — email us to request a copy of the personal data we hold or to correct it.

If you are in the UK/EU, these rights operate under UK GDPR / GDPR; the lawful basis for processing is performance of our contract with you (providing the service) and legitimate interest (security, service improvement).

Cookies

The marketing site sets no cookies. The app sets one strictly-necessary session cookie to keep you signed in. That's it — hence no cookie banner.
