Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of MyOwnArc (myownarc.com), a research library service. By creating an account you agree to them.

The service

MyOwnArc lets you build a library of research sources, read and annotate them, ask AI-generated questions answered with citations from your own sources, and export references. Plan features and limits are described on the pricing page; we may adjust limits with notice, and never mid-billing-period to your detriment.

Your content

You keep all rights to what you upload and write. You grant us only the licence needed to store, process, and display it back to you — including sending passages to our AI provider to generate your answers. You're responsible for having the right to upload what you upload; store copyrighted PDFs only as your institution's licences or applicable law (e.g. personal research use) allow.

AI answers

Answers are generated by an AI model from the sources in your library, with citations so you can verify them — and you should: AI output can be wrong, and the citations exist precisely so you can check. MyOwnArc is a research aid, not a substitute for reading your sources or for professional advice, and you're responsible for how you use its output, including complying with your institution's academic-integrity rules.

Payments & cancellation

Paid plans are subscriptions billed through Stripe (card, Apple/Google Pay, or Bacs/SEPA direct debit).
Cancel any time from the Account page; your plan stays active until the end of the paid period. No partial refunds for unused time, except where required by law.
If you subscribe as a consumer in the UK/EU you may have a 14-day statutory cancellation right; contact us and we'll honour it.
The Student plan requires a verified academic affiliation; we may re-verify periodically.
If a payment fails we'll retry (per Stripe's schedule) and email you before downgrading your account to the free plan. Downgrading never deletes your data, but access beyond free-plan limits is read-and-export-only until resolved.

Acceptable use

Don't: share one account across multiple people (that's what the Lab plan is for), attempt to access other users' data, resell the service, use it to violate copyright law, or abuse the AI features (automated bulk querying beyond your plan's limits). We may suspend accounts that do, with notice where practicable.

Service changes & availability

We aim for high availability but the service is provided "as is", without warranty of uninterrupted operation. You can export your entire library at any time, and we encourage it. If we ever discontinue the service, we'll give at least 60 days' notice for you to export.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't lawfully be limited.
